Brothers,

The Brees Dream Foundation is once again putting together “Rebuilding Thru Brotherhood”, where undergraduate Sigma Chi brothers are given the opportunity to work alongside Habitat for Humanity in the upper 9th Ward of New Orleans to help build houses. Due to popular demand and limited space, Brees Dream Foundation is making this a philanthropic competition to determine who will be able to attend the 2008 “Rebuilding through Brotherhood” campaign being held from May 12-17.

Each chapter will compete against each other to raise the most money for rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. All donations are tax deductible, and I have the tax ID number for the Foundation for anyone who wants to pledge. All money raised must be in the hands of Brees Dream Foundation by April 15th.

1st Place – The chapter that raises the most money receives 25 spots and will also get a private dinner with me, Drew Brees, on one of the nights in New Orleans.

2nd Place – The chapter that raises the second most money receives 20 spots.

3rd Place – The chapter that raises the third most money receives 15 spots.

In order to qualify to participate, you must raise at least $2500. By raising this amount you are entitled to 5 spots.

Trip includes a 5 night stay in a downtown New Orleans hotel. Last year, all brothers were housed in the Doubletree, Hilton, or Embassy Suites, all within short walking distance of Bourbon Street. Breakfast will be at the hotel each morning, with catered meals on the jobsite at lunch.

The money raised goes directly to various rebuilding projects throughout New Orleans, like schools, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, etc. To show his commitment to this project, Drew Brees will personally the total amount of money raised from all chapters.

Even though the rebuilding of New Orleans has been out of the news for quite a while, there is still a great amount of work to be done to help restore this unique city. This trip is right after finals, and is the best way to network with other undergraduates throughout the country, getting to work with them on the jobsite all day and enjoy Bourbon Street and the rest of the nightlife New Orleans has to offer. Not only is this trip a great undergraduate experience, but working with Habitat in New Orleans really stands out on a resume.

If you or someone you know would like to contribute, checks can be made payable to:

The Brees Dream Foundation
2941 Olive View
Alpine, CA 91901

Make sure to include “Arizona State” in the Memo portion of the check.

We will be attending Alumni Functions to try and raise the money, but additionally, if you have any ideas on how we can raise money for this project and send at least 5 of our brothers to New Orleans, send either myself  (Thomas Marquart) or Mark Rafferty a Facebook message, or call Me at (480) 628-4402.

The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter is proud to present the Inaugural Class of the Caldwell Club.

James Parks Caldwell, born in Monroe, Ohio, was just 14 years old when he helped launch Sigma Chi. By the time he was 13, his progress through academic courses, including Latin and advanced math, caused the principal of the local academy to remark that the boy had covered everything that could be offered there, and he entered Miami University with advanced credits. He went on to graduate from Miami University soon after his sixteenth birthday. Throughout life he held positions as a Teacher, Principal, and Attorney; continually displaying Academic Excellence.

The Caldwell Club was created to honor the Top 7 Undergraduate Members who possess the highest GPA's in a given semester. The Inaugural Class of the Caldwell Club is as follows...

Fall 2007 Caldwell Club Members:

Matt Kapeles - 4.21

Congratulations to our very own Brent Pearlstein on being voted in as the IFC President for 2008. Brent is the third Sigma Chi in four years to hold this position and joins the likes of Matt Micksin, Craig Zoebisch, and Michael Jared as recent members to serve on the Interfraternity Council Executive Committee over the past few years.
